Dare you to REPLY ALL with “What a PITA, can’t we just ‘human traffic’ him over here and stick him in a supply closet for a while?”

Well, the problem is that they’re here on the visa already, but it isn’t clear if that visa will allow them to be paid for work beyond the original scope of the visa.

Maybe NY should secede from the union and make their own labor laws. /s

Exactly. Fucking exactly. This connected anywhere work from home culture really bites you in the ass. HR still technically wants me to log any time I am out of the office for anything personal in 15 minute increments [insert bitter chuckle here]. What a joke. My job follows me everywhere. There is no true time off. No escape.

This is what an out-of-office message is for. Also, carry two phones, one for work, one for personal.

We don ’ t do “ slavery ” anymore, we just create “ sanctuaries ” to help perpetuate our need for cheap, quasi - legal labor while packaging it as some kind of humanitarian gesture. Just a kinder, gentler way to maintain our economic prosperity with starting another war...
Sorry for the tangent, it’s been on my mind a lot lately.

Try owning a small business where your business and personal phone are the same

No.
Our contractor/handyman has such a business with his son. They say we can text any time, and they will answer, but I don’t like to contact them outside of normal business hours. I just don’t feel comfortable intruding on what seems like people’s personal time.

I’m okay with not having two much of a work-home life divide though, because I just deduct the work I do from home from the work I do at work, and do less work at work.

More that I have some sort of PLAGUE cold that makes me feel like collapsing if I stand for more than a minute.

I’ve gotten phone calls while in bed. I got a text from a client at 6:30 this morning.
